Electronic Content Publishing

Managing electronic content for an online editorial website such as a publication, newsletter or an association is often a very different paradigm than managing the content for a corporate website or an Intranet portal. For one, the volume of new pages and updates to existing content is significantly higher for an online publication. The entire website must often change on a monthly, weekly or even daily basis depending on the frequency of the publication. Furthermore, with collaboration, quality control and content versioning, the entire editorial workflow can be overwhelmingly more complex. Very often, traditional web authoring processes represent too narrow a bottleneck for publishing editorial content online.

Cranium Content Publisher (CCP) is a full-featured, robust and flexible Content Management System (CMS) designed specifically for online publishers of editorial content. Unlike generic CMS platforms that are meant to manage various types of websites such as corporate portals and intranets, CCP provides specific functionality for editorial publishers right out of the box. What’s more, CCP was designed to combine the print and the online production processes into a single, coherent workflow that increases productivity and enhances the accuracy of published content.

CCP provides online publishers a complete, end-to-end publishing solution that achieves simplicity, consistency and efficiency at a fraction of the cost of deploying a generic Content Management tool.

With CCP, authors save content directly from an HTML editor onto the system. The content is automatically processed and stored centrally within the CCP server. This serves two purposes. It allows several authors to work collaboratively without having multiple files floating around through emails and the network. All updates are made to the central document so that synchronizing changes between multiple versions is no longer necessary.

Within CCP’s central repository, all content is stored in SQL server databases. Publishing creates XML files on the website. Templates render these pages to the user's browser when the webist it accessed. XML is a universally accepted formatting standard that allows for consistent data communication between disparate software and electronic devices. Using XML, Cranium Content Publisher allows for multi-channel distribution of your content without synchronization. That means the same XML document can simultaneously feed content to the website, email alerts, electronic news feeds as well as the print production tools, ensuring content uniformity across all delivery media.
