Cranium Content Publisher - Features and Benefits

Cranium Content Publisher (CCP) is a simple to use, simple to maintain and simple to own Web Content Management Solution designed specifically for editorial content publishers. It uses Microsoft® Word as the authoring tool, along with an easy to use web-based interface, to maintain the integrity of your editorial process and increase your productivity.

CCP provides a single, unified process to publish and manage your content to multiple delivery media including your Website, Email Alerts, Electronic Feeds as well as Hard-copy print.

Microsoft® Word Authoring Tool

Unlike most other Content Management Systems that utilize their own proprietary authoring tool (the interface where an author creates content and edits it), CCP uses Microsoft® Word as the primary content generation interface. This is a compelling benefit to online publishers since most editors and authors are already accustomed to using Microsoft® Word. With CCP they can post their content into the online system directly from Microsoft® Word. There is no longer a need to cut/paste content from Word into a separate authoring tool that can result in multiple versions of the same content and may require careful synchronization during editing.

Collaboration and Version Control

CCP’s collaboration tools include robust “check-in / check-out” editing so that collaborating authors do not over-write each other’s work. A content-specific discussion forum is also included that allows authors to communicate online with regard to a particular piece of content. Furthermore, all editions and updates are version controlled so that, at any time, editors can revert back to an older version of the document.

Template-based Content Delivery

CCP is a template based Content Management tool. That means despite the preferred style of individual authors and regardless of the formatting used to generate content in Microsoft® Word, the output of the system will adhere to a pre-defined set of formatting standards. Fonts, font sizes, colors and placement of images are all elements controlled by the display template. This ensures that the publication website has a consistent and uniform “look and feel” across the site and from one issue to the next. Multiple templates can be developed to output the same content in many different formats designed for specific client devices such as PDA’s and cellular telephones.

Digital Asset Management (DAM)

Two digital asset management modules are implemented within CCP. The first is a resource library that can be used to centrally classify and maintain common multimedia files such as graphics, images and video. This resource library can be used by any author to access such common files as pictures or graphics. The second DAM module exists in the form of a content-specific document folder. Each CCP-developed piece of content links to its own document repository where authors can store internal production material such as source documents and references. This helps organize and track reference material used in producing the content, should an audit ever become necessary.

Full Integration with Entitlement Management Server (EMS)

CCP comes fully integrated with Cranium Softworks’ Entitlement Management Solutions (EMS) to deliver subscription management and fulfillment, site-license enforcement and copyright protection.
